Text Mining

Text data mining allows users to discover which terms are used with the most frequency in a large body of text, such as a collection of newspapers or magazines over decades of publication, and where those terms can be found. It allows users to study and analyze texts by using a variety of quantitative measures, shown through visualizations of charts and graphs.

The text analysis tool Voyant provides users a multitude of ways to analyze large volumes of text, such as from The WPA Slave Narrative Collection housed at the Library of Congress. By employing word clouds, trends graphs and summaries, users are able to discern differences in the narratives between the states.

My thinking about text mining did not change after working with Voyant Tools specifically. After working with several types of text mining platforms, I believe it is a helpful tool for scholars to use when researching and analyzing large volumes of work.
